Zoe Paul

Based in Athens

Zoë Paul is an Athens-based artist whose practice spans sculpture, painting, weaving, ceramics, and installation. Raised between Greece and the UK by South African parents, her tri-cultural background informs her interest in the boundaries between public and private, tradition and contemporaneity, craft and community. Working with raw, time-honored materials such as clay, beads, and bronze, Paul draws on iconographic traditions—from ancient cave art and Byzantine icons to classical vases and digital pixels—to reflect on collective memory, labor, and the human body in space.

Often participatory and tactile, her work challenges fixed notions of femininity, temporality, and value, echoing the fragility and permeability of thresholds—like beaded curtains hung in Mediterranean doorways. Paul holds an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art (2012) and has exhibited internationally at institutions such as MO.CO Montpellier (2024), Zeynep Çinili Hamam, Istanbul (2023), the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2019–2021), La Loge, Brussels (2019), and Spike Island, Bristol (2018). Her work is currently on view at blank projects, Cape Town.
