Shagha Ariannia

Shagha Ariannia is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the politics of the body, intimacy, and desire. Growing up under an authoritarian regime, she investigates the divide between public behavior and private longing, drawing on personal experience and literary influences including Kathy Acker, Chris Kraus, and Iranian poet Forough Farokhzad.

Using auto-fiction as a method, Ariannia’s practice navigates themes of vulnerability, shame, love, and awkwardness, often blurring boundaries between narrative and image. Her work has been exhibited at SEPTIEME Gallery (Paris), Night Gallery, Vincent Price Art Museum, LAXART, and Braunschweig Art University (Germany), among others. She holds an MFA from CalArts and a BA from the University of California, Irvine, and is a recipient of the California Community Foundation Fellowship and a Bemis Center residency alumna.
