Negar Zonoobi

Based in Los Angeles

Born in Sari, Iran, in 1986, the artist began their studies in mathematics before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Painting at the Science and Culture University of Tehran. Since then, they have dedicated themselves to a full-time artistic practice centered on exploring the relationship between humanity and nature through a naturalistic and abstract lens.

Their work investigates the interplay of color, line, form, and content, creating compositions filled with mysticism and quiet tension. Inspired by botanical structures and their resemblance to human forms, the artist deconstructs natural elements—disrupting harmony and rebuilding it into new visual narratives that blend organic and geometric structures. This process explores the spaces between transparency and opacity, softness and solidity, resulting in layered, amorphous surfaces that suggest growth, movement, and transformation.

This distinctive visual language is most clearly expressed in the artist’s “Trim” series, where drawing and sketching form the foundation of the work. Balancing delicacy with strength, and dynamism with stillness, their practice opens a fluid and ambiguous space—inviting viewers to linger between the familiar and the unknown.
