Haniko Zahra is a contemporary painter whose emotionally charged, figurative works explore the complexities of identity, sexuality, violence, and mortality. Merging radical figuration with abstraction and personal narrative, Zahra draws from memory, literature, media, and daily life to create vivid, surreal compositions that reflect both the contradictions of the self and broader societal forces.

Describing her paintings as “mirrors,” Zahra constructs narrative spaces populated by vulnerable, often otherworldly figures that oscillate between humor and pathos. Her use of bold color, symbolic imagery, and layered compositions speaks to the multifaceted nature of the human condition.

Zahra received her MFA in Painting from UCLA in 2024 and lives and works in Los Angeles. Her work is recognized for its depth, critical engagement, and distinctive fusion of figuration and conceptual inquiry.
