Cayetano Sanz de Santamaría (b. 1997, Bogotá, Colombia) is a London-based visual artist working across painting, drawing, and etching. Rooted in figuration, his practice draws from mythology, folklore, and the human psyche to construct richly layered narratives. Humor, metaphor, and aesthetics are central to his storytelling, resulting in works that both engage and unsettle.
Blending personal experience with symbolic storytelling, Sanz de Santamaría’s imagery invites viewers into worlds where the real and the fantastical coexist. His aim is to reflect on complex cultural and emotional realities—often with subtle references to his Colombian heritage—while offering space for interpretation and introspection.
He holds a BFA from Pratt Institute, New York (2021, Highest Honors), and an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London. His work has been shown internationally, with highlights including a solo exhibition at Galeria La Localidad (Colombia), a winning bid in the silent auction for the Association of Friends of the National Museum of Bogotá, the Tagsmart Award at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (UK), and a shortlist for The Waverton Art Prize (UK). He has also collaborated with Caracol TV on a limited edition print series.
