ASMA

Based in Mexico City

ASMA is an artist duo formed by Matias Armendaris (b. 1990, Ecuador) and Hanya Beliá (b. 1994, Mexico). Their collaborative practice merges painting, sculpture, and fictional narratives to explore the interplay between nature and psychoaffective landscapes. Through allegorical figures and evocative architectures, their work examines identity, hybridity, and beauty from a metamodern perspective—oscillating between nostalgia and critical reflection.

Recent exhibitions include solo presentations at House of Gaga (Los Angeles), Deli Gallery (New York), PEANA (Mexico City and Monterrey), Embajada (San Juan), and Make Room (Los Angeles), as well as group shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, SculptureCenter (New York), Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), Denver Art Museum, and Manifesta 13 (Marseille). Their work has also been shown at Project Pangeé (Montreal), Everyday Gallery (Antwerp), and the Edith Farnsworth House (Illinois).
